Scabies is a contagious parasite skin infection caused by a mite characterized by superficial burrows, itching and secondary infection. Treatment is with medication prescribed by your doctor. Itchiness may be relieved with antihistamines. However, itchiness may persists even if scabies has already been cured. All family and close contacts should be treated at the same time, even if asymptomatic. Cleaning of environment should occur simultaneously, to prevent the risk of reinfection.
