Answer by Dr Rowena S, MD  on Tue 12, Aug 2008 04:58pm:

Hi, Difficulty in ejaculating is also known as retarded ejaculation. In this condition, men experience full sexually arousal but orgasm seems to take for ever and may not happen at all. In retrograde ejaculation, on he other hand, there is the sensation of orgasm but there is no ejaculation. Instead of the semen being expelled, it is forced backwards into the bladder resulting to cloudy urine. The most common causes are usually psychological, wherein the mind blocks the physical sensations and prevents ejaculation.Delayed ejaculation might also be a side effect of some medications and excessive use of alcohol. Although a visit to your doctor may be helpful to rule out certain conditions such as diabetes, nerve damage, back injury, allergies, high blood pressure or prostate disease. Treatment of delayed ejaculation depends on severity of the disorder and on its causes. A condition with no ejaculation at all may require urology consult, while absence of ejaculation only in sexual intercourse may be solved by sex therapy. Take care and regards.

Thanks 4 yr feedback which I found most informative. I also feel that quite often "the mind blocks the physical sensations and prevents ejaculation".I sometime feel that I am about to ejaculate but then the 'rythm' seems to get broken!! On other days intercourse is normal though the quantity if semen has reduced - i am 52 - why is this?. Is it possible that i could be impotent? I am under a fair bit of stress. Kindly advice and explain if possible. Many thanks.

For the past month I have not been able to ejaculate during intercourse. I have felt like I was going to climax but it just wouldn't release. I just wondered if anyone could help me get back to normal.
