Hi, there are many possibilities of ear pain behind the ear like stress, anxiety, exposure to wind, cold weather, migraine etc, hence avoid such further exposure. Even mastoid abscess can cause such pain and may require drainage procedures and appropriate antibiotics. Pain killers will just loose the sense of pain so you should go for the root cause of the problem. Muscle relaxants, serotonin reuptake inhibitors, tricyclic anti depressants against prescription will help you. Regular exercise, acupuncture, relaxation techniques are effective methods. I suggest you to consult neuro physician and undergo proper examination for further evaluation. Take care and regards.
