Answer by Dr Namitha Salahuddin  on Tue 11, Jan 2011 04:29am:

Hello, A polyp is a grape like abnormal growth of tissue that projects from any membrane which is usually attached to a stalk as base. Polyps can be caused by several factors and conditions. They commonly occur in the nose, colon and intestines but they can occur anywhere in the body as well. Most of the polyps are harmless and can be removed. Usually they do not cause any symptoms and are discovered during physical examination. I would recommend you to check with your doctor,if you require further investigations. Hope this helps.
