chills in mostly the right leg and back pain that has subsided

Asked by Unregistered (Female; 48; at 34 I had my left ovary removed & I had endometriosis; Relevant drugs:none ) on Mon 14, Jul 2008 10:06am

For the last 2 days I have been experiencing chills in mostly my right leg. It happens maybe every hour and doesn't last long. I also had a very bad back ache 3 days ago, which started in my lower back and then went to the middle of my back. The pain has subsided but now I have the leg chills. I've never experienced this before, what can it be?

Hi there. This sensation of chills may have several causes. One is that this can be due to localized fatigue or overuse of the involved muscles causing some form of twitching in that muscle group which can be perceived as chills. Problems with one's electrolytes and minerals such as calcium or Potassium can also give rise to these sensations. Spine problems causing some form of nerve compression to the nerves supplying the muscle group involved can also produce this sensation, and may have to be evaluated by an imaging study such as a spine MRI. As there can be a lot of possibilities, it is best that you have this known to your doctor and possibly worked up for such conditions. Regards.
