Answer by Dr. Pankaj Khater  on Sun 09, May 2010 12:32am:

Hello Charlottejo. Welcome to the forum. I understand your pain. As per your symptoms it is understood that you have some problem with your peripheral nerves also called Peripheral neuropathy. It can be due to the compression of the nerve or other reasons like due to diabetes, deposition disease like amyloidosis and Fabry,s disease, lepromatous leprosy. Small fibre neuropathies often present with cutting pain, electric shock like sensations , tingling and pins and needles. So I will advise you to visit a neurologist soon. As for the treatment, we can use drugs like tricyclic antidepressants and carbamazepine but before that I would advise you to see your neurologist. Thank you.
