Pain & itching in the anal/pelvic area & reddish penis, risk of STD/HIV?

Asked by Unregistered (Male; 28; I have had Urinary Tract Infection (2007) & Jaundice (1986) in the past. ) on Tue 20, Jan 2009 12:48pm

About 7 days back I started having itching sensation in my pelvic & anal region. During the same period I also have been having pain in my pelvic/anal region, it comes in a flash & goes away fast. the pain has also occurred a few times while I was urinating. My penis has been reddish in colour for more than a month now. (The pain & itching has co-incided with the onset of summer in my city) In april 2008 I had sex with an unknown partner, the condom was only half way up the penis. I also performed oral sex on her. 2 weeks after the sexual event I went to a general physician, who asked me to do 2 tests: VDRL & for HIV (ELISA). The tests were negative. I also had itching in my pelvic area during that time. The doctor performed a physical examination of my pelvic area & said everything was fine & the itching was due to the heat. I also got myself tested 6 months after the event, the tests were negative.I have not had any sexual encounter since april 2008. Am I at risk for any STD/HIV or any other disease? I am 28, single & hetereo sexual.

Hello, Itching and pain in the anal and pelvic area is not a symptom of HIV but it can be due to yeast infection, heal rashes, sweat dermatitis, contact dermatitis or other skin disease. Many people do not develop symptoms after they first get infected with HIV. Others have a flu-like illness within several days to weeks after exposure to the virus. Moreover you have got yourself tested again after 6 months after the event and HIV has been ruled out(after 6 weeks to 6 months, HIV antibodies develop in the body). Apply calamine lotion and take oral anrihistaminic like Claritin or zyrtec for the itching. If the symptoms persist then pls get it evaluated from a dermatologist. Hope it helps.Take care and regards.
