Answer by Dr Jasmine M  on Wed 06, Oct 2010 03:06am:

Hi, how are you? It is possible that you sustained a fracture, dislocation, ligamentous sprain, or strain. I suggest you consult an orthopedic surgeon now for proper evaluation and immediate and appropriate management. An Xray may be done to aid in the diagnosis as well as an MRI if necessary depending on the clinical evaluation. Treatment will depend on the findings. For the meantime, it may help to continue elevating the foot and applying ice compress; also rest and immobilize the area and you may also take pain/anti-inflammatory medications to help ease the pain and swelling. Hope this helps you. Take care and warm regards.
