Hi there! Welcome to the forum. Diverticulitis is a difficult diagnosis to be made on symptoms alone; though,
if you have had a previous history of being diagnosed with diverticulosis, it is a likely possibility with
right sided abdominal pain. However with localized puffiness possibilities that may need to be considered
include abscess, growths/ masses etc. The former is more likely to cause associated shivering. Also, the
association of puffiness (usually generalized) with abdominal pain may hint more towards a renal/ kidney cause
like infection or inflammation, which is usually associated with change in the appearance of urine or pain
while passing urine. Though, shivering is classically present with urinary tract infections, there could be a
number of other reasons to it as well. Either of these conditions could occur in the absence of fever,
especially if the symptoms have been present for sometime. Also there is the possibility of the symptoms being
unrelated and having occurred coincidentally due to different/ unrelated causes such as renal/ liver/ heart
issues, allergies, systemic inflammation, autoimmune issues with GI infections/ inflammation etc. Well, it
would be difficult to comment on the situation without a clinical evaluation at this time. Diagnosis would at
the least require a physical examination and/ or a few tests. It would be best to have this evaluated by your
primary care physician at your earliest convenience for an accurate diagnosis and appropriate management. If
any of the symptoms (pain or puffiness) is severe you may consider a visit to the ER. Meanwhile it is also
recommended to avoid OTC NSAID pan killers till a definite diagnosis is made. Hope this is helpful. Please
feel free to post any further queries that you may have and do keep us posted. Take care!
