Blood from penis

    
Asked by charlie70 (Male; 54; 10 years high blood pressure; overall good health; not overweight-170 lbs 5'9''; Relevant drugs:Atenolol 50mg 1 twice daily Lisinopril-HCTZ 20/12.5 mg 1 a day ) on Tue 18, May 2010 02:23pm

He found blood in his underwear coming from his penis. what does that mean? He says no blood was in the toilet when he peed. No pain. Not alot of blood but enough to cause alarm. BP 132/84

Hi, This could be a urinary tract infection, prostate infection, due to trauma or injury to the site or even kidney stones. You need to get a urine examination done - this does sound like a urinary tract infection. You would probably need an antibiotic course. Till then drink plenty of water, avoid tea, coffee, alcohol and smoking. Maintain good personal hygiene and wear loose comfortable clothes. Also, avoid sexual intercourse or any sexual activities till you see your doctor. Wash the sites frequently. If your symptoms still persist, ask to see a urologist specifically. Regards.

I had a small droplet of blood come out of my penis before I urinated. No blood in urine though...
