I am a 26 year old male and I am having a bowel movement at least 4-5 times a day. I have a balanced diet and eat very well. After I eat, 5-10 minutes later I get cramps and feel I need to use the washroom. While having my bowl movement it is quite painful and almost feels like I am heaving, also the movement is almost like water. This has been happening for some time now and I am told it is not normal. When I was young I was told that I had irritable bowl syndrome. What could be happening to me?

Hi. This could be due to gastroenteritis (viral, bacterial, parasitic), however, since you have been diagnosed with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) which is a chronic relapsing condition therefore it is possible that you may be having a relapse. It is important to remember that IBS is a chronic relapsing disorder characterized by recurrent symptoms of varying severity. I suggest you consult a doctor for proper evaluation and management. Blood tests, stool examination, or colonoscopy may be done. Treatment will depend on the underlying cause. It would be best to keep yourself well hydrated to prevent dehydration; and avoid food and drinks which may make the symptoms worse. Hope this helps. Take care and warm regards.
